We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our beloved Music Director, Joseph (Joe) Konty, has been nominated to join The Sounds of Us musician cohort. It is an incredible initiative spotlighting artists who are using their music to create real, lasting impact in their communities.
Joe was nominated by our Marketing and Training Director Alex and as he says, "Joe is the heartbeat of our music program. From the first moment he stepped into our center, Joe’s passion for music, people, and purpose has filled every corner of our space with energy, joy, and musical connection. The summary Sounds of US provided for the program was 100% Joe and everything he is. Whether he’s leading impromptu concerts with our seniors, sparking curiosity in our preschoolers, or creating quiet moments of musical reflection for those living with dementia, Joe brings an unmatched warmth and talent to everything he does."
Introducing Andy’s Music Club: Gentog’s New Music Internship Program
At Gentog, music isn’t just background noise, it’s a key to joy, connection, and care. That’s why we are so proud to launch Andy’s Music Club, our brand-new music internship program, lovingly named in honor of our Music Director Joseph (Joe) Konty’s late father, Andy.
When Joe became a care partner for his dad, he discovered something powerful: music has the ability to comfort, uplift, and bring peace during even the most tumultuous moments of the caregiving journey. It became their shared language and one that could soothe when words no longer worked.
Now, through Andy’s Music Club, Joe is passing on that same gift. This internship program will train high school aged musicians not just to perform, but to truly connect and to use music as a tool for healing, engagement, and joy across generations.
About the internship:
Andy’s Music Club is designed to cultivate the next generation of compassionate, community-driven musicians by providing hands-on experiences in:
This internship doesn’t just develop musical talent, it nurtures empathy, purpose, and human connection. Interns will serve both within our vibrant intergenerational Gentog community and beyond, sharing their music in local memory care centers, senior facilities, and community hubs throughout the Portland Metro area.
Andy’s Music Club is more than a program, it’s a movement. It’s about honoring the past, inspiring the future, and using the universal language of music to make a difference, one note at a time.
We are specifically looking for students who play guitar, ukelele, piano, bass guitar, percussion, voice, violin and/or cello.
Enroll now through our brightwheel application. We will follow up with you within 48 hours.
The Sounds of US is a collaborative project that celebrates moments of healing, joy, and connection through music by shining a light on the stories and sounds of local artists who are making those moments happen. Music has always helped us hold multitudes. Dissonance and harmony. Solo and chorus. They teach us how to belong together in joy and pain. That’s why we’re calling on music-lovers across the United States to lift up the music-makers who are the beating soul of your community. Join us in weaving a musical tapestry at monumental scale.
