Community Resources for Caregivers & Families

At Gentog Community Services, we believe no caregiver should ever feel alone.

Navigating dementia, aging, disability, or complex care needs can feel completely overwhelming, especially when you don’t know where to start. Many families tell us the hardest part wasn’t the caregiving itself… it was figuring out what resources even exist.

We have created this page to help simplify that journey.

Below you’ll find trusted organizations, local partners, and supportive nonprofits that provide guidance, education, respite, counseling, spiritual support, and community connection. Some we’ve worked alongside. Others we’ve seen make a meaningful impact in the lives of the families we serve.

Oregon Care Partners Provided by the State of Oregon

Helping You Feel Confident and Prepared

Oregon Care Partners is a free, high-quality education resource. We help family and professional caregivers build the knowledge and skills needed to improve the quality of life of older adults and people living with Alzheimer’s in Oregon.

Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care (PAC)

Radically Transforming the Experience of Dementia

Teepa's Snow Approach™ methods, a series of simple techniques, are based on understanding the areas of the brain that are no longer working and making use of the parts of the brain that are still active, so you can:

  • Protect and Grow Your Relationship
  • Experience Less Resistance
  • Experience Less Stress

Alzheimer's Association #EndAlz

The Alzheimer's Association leads the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia.

They are accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Be Light Care Consulting - Adria Thompson

The mission of Be Light Care is to improve the lives of individuals with dementia by empowering caregivers and communities with the knowledge and tools to provide compassionate, informed, and effective care.

They work to light a spark of passion in a new generation's interest in the field of dementia care.

Retirement Connection

Retirement Connection is a local, family-owned business that was born in 2008.

Simply put, Retirement Connection is a complete package: Print, Website and Network providing resources for those 50 and better and the providers that serve them. Community involvement is an integral element in their success.

Aging and Disability Resource Connection of Oregon (ADRC)

When you are looking for information about services to address aging or disability needs, the Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) of Oregon can help you learn about local public and privately paid options.

The ADRC has trained professional staff who can help you and your family with immediate needs, or help you plan for the future.

Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA)

For more than 40 years, the Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA) has provided expert support, resources and guidance to family caregivers of adults with physical and cognitive impairments, such as Parkinson’s, stroke, Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.

From assessment, care planning and direct care skills, to wellness programs, respite services, legal/financial consultation vouchers and more, they will guide you to the services you and your loved one need.

Daughterhood

We are there every step of the way.

At Daughterhood, our mission is to foster community that empowers individuals to navigate the practical and emotional complexity of caregiving.

With almost a decade of personal interactions with family caregivers, we understand every step of caregiving and all of the emotions that come with it. We also see firsthand the struggles of finding affordable and reliable resources. Seeing these hurdles, our Circles are free, virtual, and easily accessible.

Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon

Principles of peer support and the power of information are key to their mission, placing the client and client needs at the center of all interactions.

Over the years, the community they serve has benefited immensely by the labors of dedicated volunteers and the partnerships of clinicians, researchers and service providers along the way.

PRO serves the residents of both Oregon and southern Washington.

Bridgetown Music Therapy with Alexis Baker

Alexis Baker is a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC), certified dementia practitioner (CDP), and founder of Bridgetown Music Therapy.

Her program features an extensive, on-demand Video Library containing hundreds of therapeutic music sessions. Their dementia-friendly program focuses on meaningful engagement through music-based activities such as singing, rhythm and movement, gentle stretching, deep breathing, relaxation, and instrument play.

CareMobi

CareMobi was created to help families coordinate caregiving efforts.

Caregiving is overwhelming, so many medications, so many doctor's appointments, and so much to keep track of on a daily basis.

CareMobi was designed by and for people who find themselves caring for loved ones, and don't want important information to get lost.  It helps them stay organized and share information with other family members and providers so everyone is on the same page.

Hello Everyday

Hello Everyday offers a simple safety and wellness solution designed for seniors living independently or who can be left alone for periods of time.

Their core product is a small in-home sensor that detects daily activity patterns and automatically sends a check-in to selected caregivers, helping confirm that everything is okay without constant monitoring.

The system works quietly in the background, and has optional add-ons, like a call button that can allow for immediate alerts if needed.

Mackenzie Meets Alzheimer's

Mackenzie Meets Alzheimer's aims to help empower families

with knowledge about Alzheimer’s.

They assist parents in:

- Explaining Alzheimer's disease to their kids

- Providing activities for kids & their loved one

- Fostering stronger bonds across generations

- Incorporating kids into the caregiving process

- Balancing care for kids and loved ones alike

- Simplifying caregiving with a family schedule

Ride Connection

Ride Connection provides transportation options to individuals in need. From older adults and people with disabilities to low-income folks and underserved communities, we are able to provide essential transportation services thanks to the work and support of our staff, volunteers, partners, donors, and advocates.

TriMet LIFT Paratransit

TriMet Lift Paratransit is a valuable service for the members of our community who need it. The goal at LIFT is to provide service that is consistent with, and comparable to, travel time on fixed-route buses or trains, including any travel time it would take to get to the stop, any transfers while on board, and travel from the final stop to the location. The vehicle will likely make several stops to pick up and drop off other customers while you are on board.

Caregiving is one of the most selfless roles a person can take on. But no one was ever meant to carry that responsibility without support, guidance, and community.
